Hilda Mendoza, 69, is a volunteer with the Foster Grandparent Program. She travels by bus once a week from Waikiki to Kalihi to visit homebound elderly. She also visits the sick at Queen's Medical Center every Saturday where she prays for patients and administers Holy Communion. The tireless Ms. Mendoza also volunteers at the Salvation Army Family Treatment Center where she serves in nurseries for infants affected by substance abuse. She was nominated in 2002 for the Mayor's Senior Recognition Award. Mendoza was nominated by Ronald Mata, director of the Foster Grandparent Program.
