"I am nominating these grandparents because besides all their community work they have been especially helpful to their own grandchildren, Becca, Nick & Timothy when their dad was deployed to Iraq during the war. They helped to nurture and care for the kids during a very scary time in their lives & during a serious illness for nick.
  While my husband was in Iraq with the USMC they made sure they had extra contact with the kids. My father came over at least 3x a week to play w/ the baby so he would have a male influence. My mom made the older kids feel special w/ special art lessons and sleep-overs! They also made sure we were all taken care of, bringing us food & special treats we couldn't afford during deployment."
